Groundhog Day and the Meaning of Life   -   Jennifer Koss

Let's consider the groundhog for a moment ... a somewhat cute, but annoying
little creature who it seems sole purpose in life is to indicate whether or not
there will be six more weeks of winter. One wonders whether or not this ufrry
being has any idea his importance in the world. How does he know it is February
2nd? And more importantly, does he really care?

Mr. Groundhog receives huge notoriety ... news coverage including radio,
television and newspapers. And, for one day, every year, he is the talk of
every town across the US. Do you suppose baby groundhogs aspire to this high
position once one of them retires or passes on to groundhog heaven? Doubtful!
They're not even aware of their success.

And so, it comes to mind the meaning of life. Are we like the groundhog?
Whereas we really are never fully aware of our impact in the world and on others
lives? We strive for perfection and to be successful ... always trying to be
better ... when, in actuality, our purpose may simply reside in who we are and
how we affect the lives of others around us.
